entered the accerbis sprint scramble which is a 2hour enduro in llandrillo forest with graham, stevebus and andy his bro.
the weather meant that the turn out was'nt as strong as expected and saw approx 100 bikes make the start. i started at the back of the field in the hobby class hoping to eventually catch the others.
the course was a bit like the dragons back in reverse with climbs up through the forest that seemed to go on forever....deep ruts with wet tree roots angled at 45 degrees across your path, trying to throw you off...long slippy, steep downhill sections that required you to drop into a rut and stay in it.....using too much rear brake was fatal on the way down and was causing me a few problems...after completing 1 lap of the 10km circuit i was starting to question my abilty again.......this was'nt fun.it was too painful to be fun!!!!!!.and whats more the scope for more pain was getting greater by the minute....i had already had a few very near misses on the first lap and had witnessed at least a few others part company with their machines on the way round that 1st lap..surely it was just a matter of time before i met my fate too. every single part of the track was difficult except for the fire road sections that were used to link everything together...after completing 3 laps i was beginning to fear for my safety, i could hardly even ride the bike anymore, it now seemed to have a mind of it's own, going wherever it wanted. i had by now come off the bike 3 times, smacked my toe on a tree stump and had quite a few very close encounters with the trees. the more tired i was getting the harder it was to control the bike......i gave up about 1 mile into my 4th lap and therefore was classed as DNF :(.....steve, andy and graham put on a strong performance with 5 laps each.and finishing in that order.....need to work on suspension settings for the next one and also try to improve my fitness...although it was quite hard to find any pleasure during the race itself, looking back,we really had a good time. can't wait for the next one. :D
